Over on DomainTools Blog they posted an entry that Google may do their part to end the practice of wholesale domain tasting by no longer allowing AdSense ads on domains that are within the 5 day grace period when domains can be returned for a full refund. See: http://blog.domaintools.com/2008/01/google-to-kill-domain-tasting/
To me, as a web publisher, this would be welcome news in so many different ways.
What would be even better is if there were a $1 per domain name processing fee to return a domain within the 5 day grace period. For legitimate operations that just wanted to hold on to a small group of domains while they figure out which one they are really going to use, this wouldn't be a big deal. To those who want to taste massive quantities (maybe millions) of domains on a regular basis the small processing fee would make this type of speculation less appealing.
