Monetizing domains

A friend of mine has lots of city name domains which he wants to monetize.

They are not .com's.

He doesn't want to park them.

I suggested instead to produce sub-domain mini-sites (eatingout.cityname.net focusing on Real Estate, Eating Out, Nightlife and Accommodation etc.

What other things could we do?

If he doesn't want to park them the only two other options are sell or develop.

Don't know what "lots" mean, but the easiest approach would be to auto-generate and populate all the domains with data from various sources and then drive some backlinks to the them for the organic SE traffic (probably little to no type-in traffic if they aren't dot coms.)

lots means around 500... lots to me, but may not be many to anyone else.

Thanks Andrew - he isn't going to sell them - he has a future project in mind

So I think he is going to mini-develop them for a while to make some $$ - looks like you said the same thing as me :)
