I've just read the "How to Build a Successful Website" guide, I found on this site. First of all, it's really great, very good stuff.
I'm curious about this thing I read in the guide : "The collapse of the ad market made many webmasters consider charging for their content...." found here : http://www.websitepublisher.net/article/charging_content/
What does it reffer to ? What does it mean ?

It is referring to around 2000 in the aftermath of the "bubble burst".

To be honest we might see something similar (but on a much smaller scale) again with many people claiming over-the-top rates for blog and other ads by hyping up how much traffic their site gets. As Chris mentioned in his blog, his Literature website gets more traffic than Friendster - yet we can be pretty sure that Friendster makes several (if not hundreds of) times more than Online-Literature.com. This, linked in with the possibility of the US devaluing their currency in order to reduce China's influence on the world market, which would lead to global economic problems (if not a crisis), could leave online advertising in a precarious position with investors not trusting the industry or having the capital to invest in it.
But saying that, I've got no plans to get out of the industry any time soon, and things will never be as bad as the original burst again.
