In other fields I often question this company's analysts... I wonder how they figure that Wikipedia, which has no ads and is a nonprofit foundation, and Netflix, which is a mail order company that spends oodles on Internet advertising (and undoubtedly doesn't want increased competition increasing their advertising costs), stand to benefit from it. Or did they just throw a bunch of names into a hat?

My bet is that they just grabbed the highest profile names without a thought about their role in the Internet. Then again, maybe they know something about Wikipedia that we are not privy to. ;)

I agree. I don't understand how they picked those websites...

My guess is they just picked a bunch of popular names to lend credence to their article and make them seem more important by association.

Craigslist, no ads either.

A company like Netflix, which brings in customers through online advertising would actually have a negative effect because of increasing ad cost pressure.

The report is from some investment bank. May be I will email them and ask.
