Scary stuff:

http://news.com.com/GoDaddy+pulls+security+site+after+MySpace+complain ts/2100-1025_3-6153607.html

What really bothers me about this is that Myspace didn't go through any kind of official channels to do this: No court order, no DMCA request, apparently they didn't even try to contact the site owner. They just decided to call up the registrar and "demand" that the domain be suspended. What's even worse is that Godaddy went ahead and suspended the domain, thus taking down the site based on this informal request!

Godaddy's response? They point out that their terms of service say that Godaddy "reserves the right to terminate your access to the services at any time, without notice, for any reason whatsoever."

Can anyone recommend a good registrar who won't pull this kind of crap?

A more accurate way to phrase the question is does anyone know a reliable and inexpensive registrar that won't pull this crap?

What GoDaddy did was way out of line. There were no control procedures and no safety nets to ensure there was no miscarriage of justice.

I do use GoDaddy but only for unimportant domains. I have another registrar that I use for all of my "mission critical" domains, but they are too expensive to use for speculative stuff.

Who do you use?

I have never liked GoDaddy.

I have an enom reseller account. Its like $8.95/year. You have to deposit a minimum of $100 into your account, then you use that credit for quick, instant registrations.

It seems many top domain buyers prefer enom, at least used to. Haven't kept up on domain registrars the past year or two, so there may be something new and more popular.
