I been researching a keyword and this would explain why they are 9th now.

yeah thats what the sitepointmember said.. it doesnt work for other keywords i looked up though which is weird

Yeah. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Even in the Christmas tree example, sometimes it highlights "tree" and sometimes on the same page, it doesn't.

has this been on going or recently ? becuz i was gonna optimize my site for a plural version of a term and it seems all the sites with the singular term went to the top and the site that was first ranked down to 9th.

Its best to optimize for the term you want -- consider any plural/singular variations as bonuses.

I think google made some new changes -- the serps on www-fi.google.com have changed drastically today.
