Website making money

I'm fairly new to all this website business, but people have told me that it's possible to make money through affiliates and things. Can anyone recommend any good sites that I could go to, so that I can learn more about it and maybe start making a bit of cash! I'm starting to charge people a little amount for a link from my site, which has gone quite well - but do you know how you go about getting sponsorship etc?
