My wife is starting medical school in July and I thought it'd be cool if she had a blog. I already have a domain, figured adsense could help pay some of the tuition.
Anyways..... anyone have software recommendations? I prefer open source. It needs to be easy to setup, run on linux, easy to customize, and most importantly easy for her to use.

Wordpress is very simple to setup and customise. I use Movable Type (which is perl based), and that also has plenty of options. It's also free for personal use (with limits, which they don't really check up on anyway).

Yep, WordPress. It's the easiest of them all to install, setup, and use--at the moment. imho

Wordpress - blegh! Use Nucleus CMS (http://www.nucleuscms.org) instead.

In my opinion most blog software is completely over balasted, contains way too many functions that most people don't use, and is a pain in the *** to modify.
I have quite a bit of experience installing and configuring stuff like movable type, word press, and even the grand daddy of over balasted code postnuke cms.
I belong to another forum where I found this:

I'd rather have a blog with too many functions with a big user base so I can get help and really do whatever I want with it, than one with no one who's ever heard of it.
So Chris, come to a conclusion on what one to use?

Well this answers my first question about blogs :)
Um, I totally understand why someone starting medical school might not want to start a blog.....probably wants to reserve a couple of hours to sleep!

Hah, indeed. I've heard that medical school is hour-intensive.
