Hi,

I'm curious what is your website development setup for Linux based websites?

Do you develop/test your PHP scripts and MySQL databases on Windows and then just upload to your Linux server account, or do you develop/test on a Linux machine?

What is your favorite PHP Editor?

Thanks,

Peter

As for editor I use HTML Kit for everything.

As for testing, I have a linux box with Debian on it
which acts as my development environment but also as fileserver, mail/spamassasin, proxy, backup pretty much everything.

Although I need to find a solution for my backups.

Textpad for PHP, Dreamweaver + Photoshop for Web. Upload with Filezilla to server for testing. I've tested locally before, but I always found SOMETHING that would work locally but not on my server, or vice versa, so I gave up.

I currently develop in Motepad(similar to notepad) and run XAMPP. But now have an old computer that I'm going to load a replica setup of my webserver(Redhat/Apache) for testing.

I use cuteHTML with cuteFTP. It's lame but I'm so used to it I don't see any real advantage spending the time to get to know something else.

Windows XP running using Macromedia MX 2004 for editing/initial testing. Apache/Mysql/PHP running on my local win box (WAMP) for testing but I often upload immediately and test on the Linux box.

SQLYog for creating/administering databases, Filezilla for uploading. Fireworks for quick graphics.

Notepad rocks in simplicity, however I use motepad which I prefer but is still very similar.

yea, I could not live without Dreamweaver's awesome Tag Helping Mechanism.

I think I'd probably survive without tag-completion :) But it is very useful, expecially for all the CSS styles.

Code-coloring is also very useful.

I find Dreamweaver's tag completion annoying. :)

I find dreamweaver annoying in every aspect but ... ;)

Coldfusion studio (before the Allaire/MM merge) was my favorite back then.
Nowadays you can still get Homesite but I haven't looked at it since.

Tag completion has always been very useful for me, it's like something else is
writing the code for you... you just need to give it some pointers once in a
while... Brilliant if you get the hang of it.
