View Full Version : Looking to purchase websites.

I'm looking to purchase (successful) websites.

Successful, in this definition, means the site is making AT LEAST $500 a month and has for the past six months, which can be easily verified. Ideally, I'm looking for sites that generate $1k-$3k in revenue a month. The site shouldn't be high maintenance, but, if daily work is required each day to keep the site chugging, it's not a problem. There is no set bar for traffic requirements, but, traffic stats for the past six months is required, as well.

I'm posting this request in a few forums, as I'm interested in acquiring some new sites fairly quickly. The payment/domain transfer process will be quick and safe for both parties -- different payment methods can be accommodated.

If you're interested in selling your site(s), please send me what you have to offer to shawn@shawnweeks.com. Feel free to send over any questions or comments, as well.

How much are you looking to actually spend on these aquisitions? You're looking at about $50k+ for your ideal revenue range.

Wish I had the money to do that :) Though, knowing first hand how sites can literally disapear from the SERPs, I'm not sure I'd wanna part with that amount of money. Very risky.

I figure I can get a site that makes $500 a month for $5-$8k.

The SERPs factor scares me, but, it's something I'll just have to deal with. Buying a site with a regular community (forum) comforts me a little bit.

I'm no expert on this, but from what I've read I think people generally look for 2.5 times the annual revenue that a site makes. So for a site consistently making $500 a month, it works out at about $10 to $15k.

As I say, not having been involved with the whole site selling / buying side of things, I could be wrong. Obviously a lot depends on other factors too though, like traffic levels / where the PR comes from etc.

Good luck though. Hope you get a killer site! Let us know... :)

I would never, ever pay 2.5 the annual revenue. To be honest even annual revenue is a bit high; there is too much risk involved.

I've bought several small sites, requesting revenue proof and full stats for 6 months back and half of the sites never earned a single cent after I bought them (how hard it is to produce a fake revenue reports and fake stats these days?).

I heard 10-12 times monthly profit when I was looking round when I sold my casino site. $5-8k sounds about right.

But for that size, yes, SERP risk would be a constant concern. Solid user community would be more reassuring.

2.5 annual revenue would be insane. Most sites haven't even been around for that long :)

I may be wrong about the 2.5 times annual earnings thing. As I say, I'm not up on these things by any means. Just something I seemed to recall. But personally, for a site earning $2k a month NET, I wouldn't even consider selling for less than $50k.

If I was spending more than $5k on a site I would probably put together some kind of contract and do things very carefully indeed.

The other thing I would be concerned about is marketing behind a site that's tied up with the seller. For example, if he had a few high PR links that he's paying for and doesn't tell you.

Not sure a big forum really makes too much difference either to be honest. Forum traffic isn't worth much as far as I can see. Virgin traffic is what seems to make the money.

I do understand the desire to buy existing sites now, considering the amount of time it takes to get new sites listed in google.

I agree. What a site earns today can change in 24 hours.

That's the difficult thing -- most people won't sell a site that earns $2k a month. I just have to find someone who's no longer interested in running the site or just favors a lump sum of money for some reason.

If you can increase the SERPs from a say position 10 to a position 3 by adding your own PR then I reckon you'd be laughing all the way to the bank. Very smart move if you know what you are doing.

Exactly. I would be looking for underdeveloped sites that are suffereing from poor SEO. If you know what you're doing it's quite possible to turn a loser into a winner.

That's what I'm looking for. It's hard to find underdeveloped sites.

I have a datafeed based affiliate website, making around $300-400 per month. What is it worth ? It's PR3 with around 10k pages indexed in the SERPS. A couple months old. It's a 3 character domain. Send me an approximate number, IF INTERESTED, and I will shoot the URL and any more details you may need. ALl traffic is from Google/Yahoo/MSN. SEO Traffic. NO PPC.

As I know, people look for 12 times (1 year) the annual revenue
