Well, when it comes to the elves, the most popular ones are Legolas, Arwen, and Elrond. Elves were the smartest ones, they lived for thousands of years, and they created Tengwar (https://www.thetolkienforum.com/wiki/Tengwar), which was an important language in middle earth.
The universe that Tolkien created is so amazing, and I love reading all the books about it. People who read the Silmarillion deem it too hard, but it's enjoyable to read if you go slowly. The best way to do it is with an open map so you can understand what's going on and where. I never knew that Sauron was not the worst thing in that universe. It was his boss Melkor.
