Hi,
Look at it this way. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. Link baiting is one tactic within the larger concept of "link building."

IMHO, "link baiting" is creating a piece of content (story, infographic, etc.) so juicy or interesting that it's just begging to get linked-to. One example would be to use some hyperbolic headline like "SEO is dead" to get readers all worked up and create discussion and sharing...which almost inevitably leads to links back to the site or story from other blogs or twitter feeds. In this case the story/headline was the "bait."

In the field of search engine optimization, link building describes actions aimed at increasing the number and quality of inbound links to a webpage with the goal of increasing the search engine rankings of that page or website.

Link baiting is the process to attract the visitors towards your posts. It can be done by images, videos, slides, infographics also.

Linkbaiting is the practice of crafting content that is designed to get other content producers to link to it. The purpose is increasing the number of inbound links to your content and thus improving its performance in search engine results.

The biggest difference between them is that link building works for long period of time, whereas link baiting works on for short period of time to attract traffic on your blog or site.
