Mobile-first indexing means Google predominantly uses the mobile version of the content for indexing and ranking.

Mobile-first indexing means Google primarily uses the mobile version of the webpage for ranking and indexing purposes.

Mobile-first indexing means that Google focuses first on the mobile version of the website.
Mobile-friendly indexing means that Google gives added advantage to the websites that have a mobile version.

This is the basic difference between mobile-first indexing and mobile-friendly indexing.
