Should I link the subs?

Hi,

Chris, just read your latest article (Site Architecture: Optimizing your Internal Links).

Now, say I'm building umm a shopping mall kind of website similar to yahoo. Now like yahoo I have sub categories under each main category on the homepage.

So according to your article, because I want the site to be listed highly on search engines for all those categories I then should link all the sub cats on the home page to the appropriate pages? as appose to only linking the main cateogry pages and not the subs?
