I would do things a bit differently than this. The best way to start a online seo strategy for a website is to start at the same time a social media page and offline real world clients or visitors.
Why do I say this because website have a sanbox period and yes you can optimise for google as much as you like but with strong social media and what i call real world signals i.e people that visit your website directly its telling google this place is prominent somewhere in the real world. Then ofcourse keyword research is important, running through a on page seo audit tool to check things like page speed, canonical tags, meta tags. Then a blog or some kind of back link building strategy is still quite important. When you write content for you blog make sure its content that offers value to people who will potentially be clients. Think a step ahead. I post about business start ups and tips for entrepreneurs, because most of those guys will need a website somewhere along the line. Get very familir with google analytics to do ab testing on your website lastly dont focust too much on organic ranking, google makes it harder and harder and you may spend two years to get to the top , then gooles changes algorith and you are back at the bottom. Google ants people to use adwords. so get familiar with ppc
