Hidden spam links can adversely impact the search ranking of a website. These are considered as Black Hat SEO techniques that are aimed at manipulating the search engine rankings of a website. These can originate from various sources like hackers, improperly validated comments, unscrupulous guest posts, or widgets, themes, and plug-ins. These should be identified forthwith to escape being penalized by Google by following techniques as follows -

Scrutinizing the site files, especially in areas like headers, footers, irrelevant links, and functions.

Analyze the database to detect malicious database scripts and edit the same using a CMS system like WordPress or the PHPMyAdmin tool.

Analyze using Web Developer, the browser add-on. Install it in your browser and stop the running of any malicious code.

Analyze the website using another browser add-on called Link Grabber and spot any odd link on the website. Use the browser’s developer tools to generate reports of suspicious links.

Right click, select “view page source,” and do a search for href= to see all the links on your site. That will show you every link, visible or hidden.
