.net or .com ??

I have the opportunity to buy a .net domain name for a new site. The .com equivalent isn't available. I just want to check...

Do .com's get a naturally higher ranking in google? Or, as I would expect, doesn't it matter at all?

So, for example, assuming domain.com had exactly the same level of SEO (in theory!) as domain.net, the .com version wouldn't be ranked higher purely because it is a .com would it?

TLDs don't matter at all.

.com is a bit more user friendly because some of the less Internet-literate think everything is a .com

Thought so. Shouldn't be a problem as I predict most of my traffic would be from search engines and directories anyway.
