I would like to know peoples experiences with this... Do you find that the number of backlinks from DIFFERENT sites is important to your rankings? Reason I ask is that I often see sites with a comparatively low PR that rank well. The only real difference seems to be the number of backlinks they have from different sites.
My dating site for example has a PR of 5 (used to be 6). It's well optimized as far as I can see and yet it ranks terribly at around #175 for "dating services". Obviously this is a competitive term, but it should do way better than this position. I can't see why this should be except for not having a larger number of distinct backlinks. I can't really even put it down to LocalRank either as I have a number of backlinks from sites listed in the top 10 for my primary keyword term.
Any thoughts?
