The owner of a grocery market wants to record conversation of the cashier. And so the owner is interested in locating a voice recorder or some sort (no idea yet) near the cashier.
Is recording employee's conversation illegal?
What if the employee is notified/informed that he/she is being recorded?
And lastly, what hardware/device/setup do you know of and could recommend for such plan?
I truly appreciate the time for reading this.

The reason: The owner will inform the cashier of the recording.
The cashier speaks spanish and the owner does not speak or understand spanish quite well. And for the past two weeks, he noticed that the receipt from end-of-day sales does not match the cash in the employee's drawer.
And the employee talks on the phone a lot during shift and to spanish-speaking customers. The owner wants to be aware of the surrounding.
I don't think it is illegal. There are a lot of services in the UK that say the conversation is being recorded etc.
Im sure US law will be different to UK, but over here they have to tell you, as a customer, if they are recording - and Im sure the employees know anyway.
IE over here you would need to tell the employee and the customer.
CCTV an option?

General speech I'm sure is free from restrictions.
Phone calls though, there are laws about that, and they vary from state to state.
Ah yeah, what I said applied to phone calls - but UK anyway...
