I have got a site at

http://cie.uni.cc

I currently use google adsense and clixgalore.

Do u guys know affiliate programs for sites about education? I also want CPM paying ad networks you would like to recommend.

Does clixgalore pay, does anyone know?

I am also accepted in compactbanner and saybyebye but i am not sure about their ads.

Clixgalore does not pay. Go to www.suxgalore.com

I run essay ads through searchfeed and they pay well.

Your site just installed spyware on my system. Get that crap off it.

You clicked yes on the popup Chris?

Spyware that doesn't ask should be illegal, however I have nothing against ones that ask.

Your putting it on your msn emotions site aren't you Sean? Imho you will lose money in the long run, as your traffic will slowly drop.

I know I'd never return to a site where I received a popup asking to install something.

I don't have spyware on my msn site, no. Jaffro does.

How can spyware automatically install itself without the user clicking "yes" on a prompt?

There are three ways that I am aware of:

1. They exploit vulnerabilities in unpatched systems.
2. They exploit vulnerabilities for which patches are not yet available.
3. They take advantages of systems with the Browser security settings set too low. (For example, set to run activeX controls without prompting.)

I recommend that everyone download and periodically run SpyBot. It's a great program, and it's free. You can get it at www.safer-networking.org . Make sure you run the online update every time before you run a scan. You'll be surprised at how much junk it finds.

Its basically through activex, MS has failed to provide adequate security for it.

I am pretty strick, no unsigned scripts and all that, but I removed the prompt option. The reason was it was simply annoying. Rich media advertisements and alot of websites, like ebay, use activex and I was having an alert box popup every time I visited the site.

The only solution, as I see it, would be to not use IE.

I've grown fond of SpySweeper. I don't know how many times it's found and removed stuff that both fully updated AdAware and Spybot S&D have missed. I've pretty much moved away from those.

Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is a very good product (it's also free).

For anti-virus I use Sophos AntiVirus (another good product).

The emotion installer is nothing to do with spyware at all.

Find out what spyware is here: http://www.spychecker.com/spyware.html

Although the two are commonly linked, Adware isn't spyware.

Mike

Isn't it? It says...

..."Spyware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Adware).

On that link you posted?

incka

I suggest taking all ads down until you get 80,000 page views a month.

mrroger
04-14-2004, 01:06 PM
huh? Isn't that a bit too much?

incka
04-14-2004, 01:31 PM
You will only make about $100 a month on 80,000 page views.

chromate

Actually it's likely to be a lot less than that if you're only running banners. eg: 80k at $0.40 CPM = $32

If you were running pop-unders etc then this would obviously be more, but not by that much.

Adsense is a different matter. It could generate a more revenue than $100 a month. Example: CTR of 2% = 1600 clicks. Each click $0.10 = $160 a month.

mrroger
04-14-2004, 03:49 PM
I run google ads at the moment and average 1.6% click through, I have about 500 page views daily so a month should be

1 month=30daysx500x1.6%x0.10clicks=$24 per month

Not bad! I thought it is less. Is it good for the amount of traffic. I dunno. I use google and get $1 sometimes and 0.20 the next so.....

Just a heads up - it is against Adsense TOS to discuss details of your account...
