SEO for my blog

Hello, dear friends :) As I'm not a master in SEO area, I'd like you to give me any hint concerning the following. I have a blog, do some SEO, but doubt how long I have to do SEO for my blog. What are the exact time frames for doing that?
Please, advice.

If you are blog is interesting to read by other people they will leave links to your blog posts everywhere and I think that would be the best way of promotion.

being on top page of search results really takes time and when your page rank increases, you have to maintain it. like what the previous commentators have said, SEO is continuous process because the internet is dynamic, it changes constantly

You also have to build backlinks. Depending on niche, you may have to do that for a long time

To promote blog you should have there unique frequently updated content

Is that someone's link do good to your blog when you posted and that someone commented and left a link?
If so, what to do? Just left them there and do nothing?
