Check your getting a good price.

Get godaddy to move your domains to a new account.

Give your files to the buyer.

Get your money.

Give the buyer the user and pass for the new godaddy account.

Escrow.com could also come in handy. I've used it to buy / sell domain names in the past. It's a good service.

Escrow.com is good if you're not familiar with the other party you're dealing with. Fees are kind of high, though.

Never transfer the domain and files before payment... IMHO.

I usually wait until payment is accepted, then transfer the domain to them, then give them cpanel & ftp access so they can transfer the files etc... to their own server.

Depending on the price I wouldn't accept anything like paypal, just a check.

Paypal is a no-no since they can easily (too easily infact) reverse the charge after the domain and site has been transferred to them.

I agree, a cheque is best. But wait until it has cleared before doing anything...

it depends on the price of the site
for a few hundred dollars paypal is ideal - especially since most webmasters have some spare cash sitting in their paypal account

I cannot remember the exact period for paypal, specifically, however for normal credit cards it is 6 months so I guess paypal would be about the same...

So let me try to under this. Someone pays you via Paypal, and they can reverse the charges up to six months later?

Surely they can't do that? Afterall if you've withdrawn it to your bank account...

Paypal can't legally withdraw from your bank account without permission.

But if you have a real merchant account they can.

No, they can't legally withdrawl from your bank account. I never said they could.

THEY CAN put a negative balance in you Paypal account and order you to pay that money "back" to them.

Actually, giving them permission to withdraw from your bank account is part of the terms.
