1 big site? or 2 smaller ones?

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the right category to ask this question.
Anyhow I was just wondering if its better to make 1 big site or 2 smaller ones.

For example, lets say I have a site on 'Lord of the rings' and then I want a site selling ummm lord of the ring swords :P

Would it better to make 2 seperate sites? Or 1 big one ?

2, always keep your ecommerce sites seperate from your content sites. That way you can promote your content site as "uncommercial"
