Recently someone hot-linked a picture from my site to theirs, I asked them to take it off and they complied. This got me thinking, are there SEO benefits from someone hotlinking a picture from your site?

I don't believe so, because they are not linking to your site they are just calling the image from your server.

Unless the image has a watermark with your site address on it, then there may be some benefit.

Ya, it is just your bandwidth they're using.

I think their may be a little benefit on it... because some site just adding the image from you site on their own site guys... and yeah maybe bandwidth is the only thing for some not good for you...

Definitely NO!

Why don't you do some tweak and change the image into something to punish that bandwidth sucker. I had same problem and I just changed my image(kept the name and url same) to punish em. And it was fun to show that site's users what I wanted to show, lol!

The person was blogging on a website that wasn't even her own. I doubt she knew she was doing something bad. It's resolved, so no need for that. I won't lie though, I did give it some thought until she removed it. :)
